1450-Org PreRace Tech Inspection List
1450-ORG racers will compete with different race organizations that will in some cases have different safety requirements. The safety
requirements for MDR, MORE, and SNORE are listed below. Where differences in safety requirements occur that race promoter will be noted.
It’s the 1450-ORG members’ responsibility to make sure their race vehicle complies with these rules prior to the pre-race technical inspection.
Below is a list of items that are checked during the pre-race technical inspection prior to each 1450-ORG events:
Window Nets
Nets must cover the entire window area opening from the “A” pillar to the “B” pillar, from the top of the “body panel” to the bottom of the “roof”.
Installation – Nets must be securely fastened to the vehicle. For race vehicles with opening side doors and snap/screw/velcro style window nets, the use
of screws or permanent fasteners are required in the 2 top corners in order to prevent the window nets from failing.
Roll Cage
Material – Minimum of 1.5” x .095” mild Steel or D.O.M.
Must have corner gussets on the main roll cage and be welded 360 degrees.
A head rest connected to the cage or race seat with built in head rest is required.
It’s recommend that the roll cage design, material selection, and construction be performed by a qualified fabricator.
Safety Harnesses
Must be no older than 3 years. The Expiration date is determined by the manufactures label on each belt.
Shoulder harnesses must be bolted. pinned, or use “double-D rings to secure them to the vehicles roll cage.
“Y” or “V” style harnesses are not acceptable.
No twist type latches….must be a “lever latch” type release.
Fire Extinguisher
Required – minimum of 1 - 2.5 lb “A-B-C” rated hand held fire extinguisher.
Must have capacity gauge and the gauge must be viewable at time of inspection.
First Aid Kit
A waterproof first aid kit is required. The first aid kit must contain nine (9) waterproof containers, one each per items listed below.
First aid kit must contain the following items:
1 – 4 inch bandage compress
2 – 2 inch bandage compress
1 – Triangle bandage
8 – 2x3 inch adhesive bandages
16 – 1 x 3.375 inch adhesive bandages
10 – Prep pad packets
1 – Eye dressing packet
10 – Ammonia inhalants
1 – Ace Bandage
Fuel Cell
Fuel cell or bladder must be fully encased with a smooth surface and must be constructed of the following materials: 20ga-Steel,
.060”-Aluminum, or .125” Marlex. Magnesium is not an acceptable material.
The fuel cell or bladder must have a vent line that is required to loop past both sides of the fuel cell and then and exit below the
bottom of the fuel cell on the passenger side of the vehicle, forming a loop that will prevent the gas from spilling in the event of
a roll-over.
Fuel cap must be a “quick-fill” or “twist” type, non-vented with a gasket.
The fuel cell or bladder must not have any leaks.
Drive Shaft Safety Loop
Drive shaft safety is required for vehicles with a driveshaft.
Retainer loop can be made of .25” x 2” Steel or 2” Nylon strap.
Drive shaft safety loop must be securely bolted to the frame of the vehicle.
Vehicles with 2-piece drive shaft, the safety loop must be installed aft of the center support junction.
Lights
Each race vehicle is required to have the following lights:
2 – Brake lights connected to a pedal brake switch, no hand controlled switches allowed.
2 – Tail lights
1 – Rear facing Amber light.
1 – Rear Facing Blue light for vehicles racing limited laps. (SNORE rule)
Amber and Blue lights must be on master or ignition switch and must be both on during the entire event and must be repaired if stopped at a checkpoint.
At least 1 forward facing driving light required for “Night races” or races that extend into the night.
Horn
The louder, the better, will be tested during inspection.
Race Numbers
Must be Black numbers on a White background, or White numbers on a Black background.
Front number must be 4” tall and placed on the drivers’ side of the visor or on a forward facing number plate.
Side numbers must be 8” tall and placed in the inline with the driver “middle of vehicle”. Side number backgrounds must be 12” x 12”.
Rear facing numbers must be 6” tall.
Driving Suit
A SFI rated and labeled one piece driving suit is mandatory for each event participant including co-drivers.
Suit must cover neck to wrist to ankles.
Suit and gloves must be made of fire resistant material and be clean, free from holes, (including pee holes and cooling holes) tears, and rips.
Highly recommended is a multi-layer one-piece driving suit.
Helmet
“SA2000, SA2005 SNELL approved rating required with legible Snell sticker inside the helmet.
“M2000, or M2005” SNELL approved rated helmets can be used throughout 2008 in MORE, 2009 in MDR, and throughout 2010 in SNORE and must also have a with legible Snell sticker inside the helmet.
Eye protection with open face and full face helmet will be required.
Helmet straps must have “D” rings, no snaps.
Signaling Device
3 reflective triangles are required to be carried on board each race vehicle at all times.
To be used to warn other drivers of a stopped or disabled vehicle on the course during the race.
Fire Wall
Race vehicles with closed cockpits must have a wall constructed of metal between the motor and drivers compartment.
Required for all vehicles were a fuel cell is used. Normal location would be between the driver’s compartment and the fuel cell.
Carburetor Return Springs
Race vehicles with a carburetor must have 2 return springs installed where the throttle shaft joins the throttle cable.
Food and Water
At least two (2) days of food and water must be on board the race vehicle before the start of the race. (MDR Rule)
Positive Battery leads
All positive battery leads must be covered in order to prevent an inadvertent connection to Ground which could result in a fire.
